At the age of 78, well-known builder Bees Be-zuidenhout’s passion for property and construction has seen him build many homes in Jeffreys Bay, with the most recent beautiful home completed and sold in Dr AD Keet Street in November.
Bezuidenhout, who is the founder of the construction company, Astrostone 178 CC, was born in Steytlerville and matriculated at Volkskool High in Graaff-Reinet.
He studied at the University of Stellenbosch between 1963 and 1967, where he majored in history and psychology and participated in rugby and athletics.
Bezuidenhout married his wife, Tania, in 1974, and had three children.
After graduating, he taught for a short while before he furthered his studies and began working for Trust Bank, who were the developers of Jeffreys Bay in the 1970s.
During Bezuidenhout’s engagement with Trust Bank, at least 4 000 stands were sold in Jeffreys Bay and he was involved with pointing out the properties to their buyers in the area which at the time mostly consisted of farmland filled with cattle, goats and donkeys.
This was how his love for properties and building construction began.
In 2002, Bezuidenhout relocated to Jeffreys Bay after spending several years on his farm in Steytlerville.
During his career he built 400 low-cost houses and 40 houses in Despatch, before he began building countless homes in the Jeffreys Bay area.
Among other projects in Jeffreys Bay, Bezuidenhout has built an upmarket apartment building, a shopping centre, a stylish farm house and many homes in different areas such as Wavecrest, Lifestyle Estate and Fountains Estate.
During his most recent project in Dr AD Keet Street, Jeffreys Bay, which was completed in October this year, he worked alongside three masons, Andile Ngqumaza, Philip Martin and Damin Hendricks.
The home was designed by Phil Muller from M&M Designs and sold to local entrepreneur Leonie Damons.
Wilna Nice from Real Nice Properties sold Bezuidenhout’s two most recent building projects in Jeffreys Bay.
Once the construction of the home in Dr AD Keet Street was complete, Bezuidenhout immediately began working on his next project in Blackwood Street which is currently for sale and is expected to be completed by March next year.
Not slowed down by his age, he is up before sunrise each morning and picks up his workers at 06:30 each day. Bezuidenhout has a vast knowledge and wisdom about building and he makes best use of natural light and views.
