A total of 16 gravel roads across the Kouga region are set to be tarred before the end of June this year – forming part of the two-year R53,6 million road upgrade contract.

“A whopping 5 580m of gravel road will be tarred this current financial year, while a total of 27 gravel roads will be tarred by the end of August 2023,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks.

“The priority gravel roads to be tarred in the current financial year include Koerat Street and Mentoor Street at Kruisfontein in Humansdorp, as well as the road entrance to the Golf Course in Humansdorp.

“It is estimated that construction will be completed within the next week or two.”

Additional roads to be tarred include Galjoen Street, Manta Street, Snoek Street, Streepie Street, Haring Street and Makriel Street in Jeffreys Bay. Gravel roads to receive a new lease on life in Thornhill are Aweries Street, Aweries Loop, Jantjies Street and Circle Road.

“The upgrading of roads not only addresses the massive gravel roads backlog in the region, but it also demonstrates the municipality’s capability in and dedication to infrastructure development,” said Hendricks.
