As part of their annual fundraising event for retired military veterans in the Kouga region, Visarend, the Kouga branch unit of the South African Defence Force Association (SADFA), will host a golf day at Jeffreys Bay Golf Club on August 3.

Despite hosting a successful fundraising event a year ago, Deon Wessels, the treasurer of Kouga’s SADFA, said that with inflation continuing to increase they are in desperate need of additional funding to take care of the approximately 120 military veterans at their Jeffreys Bay branch.

He said the association helps its members with regular food parcels and assists with medical bills.

Wessels further said that since many of their members are not able to pay their monthly subscription fee, they had to seek financial assistance elsewhere.

Similar to that of last year, he said they will host a golf day event to raise the necessary funds to continue taking care of their military veterans.

Wessels said the cost is R250 per person, and the first tee off is at 07:00.

He said all are welcome to participate, and they are encouraging men, women, and children, to enter.

“We left our entry fee at last year’s amount, even though prices have significantly increased. The green fees have gone up by R10, cutting our profit margin more. Without donations, we have to source prizes for the players from our own pockets,” said Wessels.

He said prizes will be given to the top three men and top three women.

In addition to this, Wessels said there will be random prize giveaways.

“I am hopeful that this year’s event will be a success, despite the prices skyrocketing astronomically,” said Wessels.

Tickets for the golf day are available at Slater’s Toy Magic at Fountains Mall.
