Students from the Military Academy refurbished two day-care centres in Kouga during their visit to Jeffreys Bay on Saturday, November 27, on the second day of the Trans Enduro Exercise, after successfully launching the programme in Gqeberha, the previous day.

To raise funds for their outreach programme, MASIZA, the students participated in the annual Trans Enduro Exercise, which saw them travelling from the Eastern Cape to Saldanha over a period of 10 days.

In addition, to their physical exercises, which included cycling, sailing, and running, the students contributed positively to each town along the way by cleaning streets and neighbourhoods, painting school buildings, and visiting retirement homes.

During their recent stop over, Trans Enduro identified two children’s day-care facilities to assist and refurbish, namely, the Kate van der Merwe Crèche in Humansdorp and Mommy’s Day Care in Jeffreys Bay.

At the two day-care centres, the MASIZA outreach programme was able to fix doors, paint and donate stationery and toys.

Ward Councillor, Jaques Alexander, said the municipality went back to check the records of Trans Enduro projects and what they found was only tremendous work.

“It is really inspiring to see what our soldiers are doing in our communities. They continue to make a difference in the lives of our people.

“We want to thank you and we wish you well for your contribution to the society,” he said.

The founder of Mommy’s Day Care, Gladys Jaffon, appreciated the tremendous gesture given by the students.

“I am very happy that this gesture comes at a point where we really needed to renovate our day care. I have always been waiting for any sponsor that God could possibly send in our direction,” she said.

This was the same sentiment that was shared by Dorine Braam, the principal of the Kate van der Merwe Creche.
