To grow touch rugby and promote the love of sport, the Eastern Province Coastal Touchies Association (EPCTA) will be hosting the EPCTA Beach Touch Rugby Tournament at the JBAY Winterfest Touch Rugby Tournament on Main Beach, Jeffreys Bay, on Saturday. July 15.
According to Razaan Ogle, communication and marketing manager of EPCTA, the tournament is free and open to all.
She further said that registration is open and can be finalised on the tournament day at 08:00.
Senior division second trial phase
Ogle said they encourage female and male senior rugby stars to display their incredible skills on the sandy pitch and seize the opportunity to impress the selection committee.
Once all four trial phases have been completed, she said the selected players would be awarded the prestigious full touch rugby Eastern Province (EP) colours, making them eligible for selection for the upcoming tour.
“This is your chance to shine and proudly represent your region.”
Primary school stars
She said the tournament would feature the Primary School Phase One Eastern Cape (EP) trials.
Ogle said the tournament would be the first of three trial phases, giving all schools multiple opportunities to participate.
Ogle said they are returning the top-rated Lifeguard Games, co-hosted by the NSRI, to add even more excitement to the day. She said the event would be non-swimming and showcase participants’ fitness and skills through various activities, including beach sprints, body planks, flutter kicks and throw-line accuracy.
A fun-filled day for all
Ogle said there would be various prizes up for grabs for the participants.
“Whether you are part of a club, a school, or simply a passionate rugby lover, we invite you to join us. Do not miss the chance to be a part of this thrilling event, promoting the love of sport and fostering a sense of community through rugby,” said Ogle.
She said they are also inviting the public, community members, families, and supporters to join the tournament for an unforgettable day.
“This event is more than just a tournament; it is a celebration of unity and the spirit of sport.”
