Louise Lloyd (née Shaw), who has been an active member of the Jeffreys Bay community for the last 27 years, was born on May 19, 1933 sadly passing away on January 21.
Her daughter, Karin du Plessis, always referred to her as Jeffreys Bay’s “penguin lady” as she was very actively involved at the penguin rehab centres both in Jeffreys Bay and in Aston Bay.
“She was very involved at the Jeffreys Bay Bowling Club as a player, and a pro server at the bowling club’s bar after games. She was also always game for a competition and won prizes for best Easter hat on multiple occasions,” said Karin.
As an active member of the South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP) and the Nifty Fifties, Louise enjoyed the outings and travelling as a group, exploring Jeffreys Bay and surrounding areas.
She was an avid Methodist Church member all her life, with roles as a Mothers’ Union member, Women’s Auxiliary member, Sunday School leader and teacher, and catering for many Student Christian Association Camps.
In addition, Louise has always helped to find sponsors for fundraising, and so much more.
She married again four years ago at the age of 86 and was a mother of two, grandmother to five, and “foster mother” to many dogs and penguins.
To celebrate her life, her family would like to invite all who knew her to join them on Saturday, February 4, at 15:00 at the Garanzia Guest Hall, corner of Dogwood and St Francis Street, Jeffreys Bay.
They have requested people to bring along their stories and memories to share.
