Since learning that he has been selected to participate in the Dana Cup in Demark from July 24 to 29, soccer star, Olwethu Sesman (16), from Ocean View, has been motivated to improve his soccer skills which he hopes will inspire young people in his community.

His father, Nicholas Masuku, said that earlier this year KeepActive Development, a sports development organisation, arranged a tournament in Gqeberha for soccer players in the Eastern Cape and 18 players were selected to participate in the Dana Cup.

Sesman, who is a learner at Jeffreys Bay Academy, received the exciting news in March that he had been selected to be part of KeepActive Development which will afford him the opportunity to showcase his skills and interact with soccer players from around the world when he travels to Denmark in July.

Masuku said that his son, who plays for Morning Stars, always loved playing soccer.

“He plays soccer for his club, but also enjoys playing soccer with his friends after school to ensure that he stays active,” said Masuku.

He said that his son was very excited when he received the news that he was going to Denmark to participate in the Dana Cup.

Masuku said that for the last two months his son had remained motivated to improve his soccer skills ahead of his trip.

“At the moment he wants to prove himself by all means,” said Masuku.

He said that travelling to Denmark would mean a lot to his son as it is a once in a lifetime experience.

Masuku said that many young children in their community have already shown interest in wanting to follow in his son’s path and travel to Denmark as well.

“We hope that this experience will further motivate the soccer players from his team and the young children in the community,” said Masuku.

Despite the excitement, he said that they need to raise R45 000 to cover the cost of his international trip.

With just weeks to go, Masuku said that he is hoping to receive sponsorships from any individual, business, or organisation willing to help make his son’s dreams come true.

“We have not received any sponsorships yet, and we are hoping to receive funding soon, because it will help us a lot,” said Masuku.
