Two local learners, Ivan van Staden of Nico Malan High School and Uviwe Ntsali of Morningside High School, recently finished first and second respectively in the regional round of the National High Schools’ Quiz, hosted on campus by The IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay.

They will compete in the national grand finale on October 14 at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall, against Grade 9 to 11 learners from around the country for the R10 000 cash prize.

The last two years of this particular competition saw the winners emerge from the Eastern Cape – Nico Malan High School.

It will be my first time visiting Johannesburg, and only my second time flying, so I’m very excited to compete against the best and sharpest quiz students in South Africa. It’s also a great opportunity to measure my intelligence against the best in the country. I am privileged to be representing the Eastern Cape as well as my school. I’m looking forward to making it a hat-trick of wins.
Van Staden.
