KOUGA – Kouga Local Municipality is making significant progress on its combined R12.18 million projects to repair and restore key road, water and stormwater infrastructure damaged by recent floods.
Construction commenced on 14 July 2025 and is scheduled for completion by 28 February 2026.
Repairs will be carried out across multiple sites in the Kouga region, including Ketse, Nanto, Meyer and Phillip Streets, as well as Mountain Road in Humansdorp; Sherley Street in Loerie; Da Gama Road in Jeffreys Bay and George Road and the Sea Vista access road in St Francis Bay.
Work will include reinstating and upgrading stormwater systems, repairing road surfaces, strengthening embankments, and reconstructing low-level bridge crossings.
Priority projects include the Phillip Street low-level bridge crossing, which will be rebuilt to ensure safe access for motorists and pedestrians, and the Mountain Road stormwater culvert upgrade, designed to improve drainage and reduce flooding risks. George Road will also see both water and stormwater infrastructure restored to pre-flood standards.
“Thanks to the Municipal Disaster Recovery Grant, we are now in a position to repair and rebuild the affected areas in a way that not only restores access but also increases resilience to future storm events,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman.
“These repairs are vital for the safety, connectivity and well-being of our communities. We are committed to restoring damaged infrastructure swiftly and ensuring that all work meets the highest engineering standards.”
