JEFFREYS BAY – Jeffreys Bay will make a splash this spring with its first-ever Polar Bear Swim, set to take place on Monday, 1 September at Kitchen Windows Beach. The event will begin at 06:55 with a sunrise swim, with two additional swims planned for 13:00 and 17:15 to give more people the chance to take part.

The idea was inspired by an old Spring Day tradition, when many would welcome the season with a plunge into the ocean or a swimming pool with their friends, no matter how cold it was. This year, the tradition would be revived with a new twist, a combined effort from all of Jeffreys Bay’s swim clubs, fitness groups, youth groups and ocean enthusiasts.

Organisers emphasised that the event is about more than just a swim; it is about camaraderie, fun, and community spirit. Anyone can take part, whether simply swimming or on a surfboard, floatie or boogie board.

The organisers said they hoped the Polar Bear Swim would become a yearly tradition, bringing people together to celebrate fitness, friendship, and the changing of the seasons. They believe the event would give locals and visitors alike a chance to share in “the laughter, the shivers, and the memories” of a fresh start to spring.

Registration is open to all at Signature Café, located inside Xclusive Fitness at 50 Diaz Road. Contact Rian on 072 277 3301 or Jenny on 082 576 5099 for further info.
