JEFFREYS BAY – The Kouga Municipality wishes to inform the public that reservoir levels in Jeffreys Bay (Churchill-supplied reservoirs) remain low, currently standing at a combined approximately 26%.
The municipality sincerely thanks all residents for their continued cooperation and efforts in saving water during this challenging period.
“Your responsible water usage is making a significant difference and is greatly appreciated,” the municipality stated.
“We kindly ask all residents to continue saving water and to restrict usage wherever possible.”
In a previous report, the municipality indicated that following positive engagement between Kouga Municipality and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, the Metro is assisting by allowing additional water into the Kouga network, which will help alleviate some of the pressure on our supply.
Despite the additional support from the Metro, reservoir levels are still critically low.
Here are some specific water-saving tips to assist you:
- Take shorter showers (aim for 2 minutes) and consider turning off the tap while soaping or shampooing.
- Fix leaking taps, toilets, and pipes immediately – a single dripping tap can waste up to 20 litres per day.
- Use a bucket or basin when washing dishes or vegetables instead of running water.
- Only run washing machines and dishwashers with full loads.
- Avoid watering gardens or washing cars with municipal water – use greywater where possible or postpone these activities.
Residents must please note that water pressure will remain low until the reservoir levels have been restored sufficiently.
Please continue to use water sparingly and report any leaks or bursts immediately.
