Founder and CEO of Felines Models, a local in Jeffreys Bay, Philene van Niekerk, and an agency model in Cape Town at MMM Agency, also plays professional netball for the National Telkom League.
Van Niekerk played first team netball for Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp from 2011 till 2013. She was also the only player selected from the whole of the Eastern Cape in 2012 for u/17 South African schools squad. In her first year of varsity in 2014, she was selected for the u/21 South African netball squad.
She has also been playing for the Eastern Cape Netball squad since 2012; for a cumulative eight years, with nationals having been cancelled last year.
Van Niekerk also played for Nelson Mandela University in the Varsity Cup Madibaz team since 2014, with 2020 having been her last year, given Varsity Cup age restriction rules.
She ended her Varsity Cup stint with her Madibaz team in 2019 and is now focused on the Telkom Netball League.
The Telkom Netball League will commence on Sunday, September 5, at Sun City in Pretoria, with Van Niekerk set to play as part of the Eastern Cape Aloes team. Last year, her team won gold in their division and claimed first position in provincial standings.
This year the Eastern Cape Aloes will play in the tournament from September 5-12, and October 5-17.
