WOODRIDGE College will present the hilarious farcical comedy Play On! from the pen of the American playwright Rick Abbot, at the school from March 26 to 28.

The production features a group of amateur actors who have decided to produce a play called “Murder Most Foul”, a new murder mystery with the same title as an Agatha Christie novel, but with no relation whatsoever, written by a local novice playwright.

There are jarring personalities, budding romances, a famous jewel and a playwright who can’t stop changing her mind – and the script.

The question is: will the director and her cast and crew be able to get the show on the boards in time for opening night? The thespians may have bitten off more than they can chew.

The new production follows hot on the heels of the prior award-winning school productions of District Six (2017), Almost, Maine (2018) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2019).

Play On! is directed by Woodridge College Head of Dramatic Arts, Caren Bestbier, who has over 20 years of experience in theatre and drama. She is an award-winning stage manager, as well as lighting and set designer.

Bestbier won the PEMADS Best Actress award in 2016 for her performance in The Ex Factor, and the Showtime Best Supporting Actress award in 2017 for Careful. District Six and Almost, Maine both scooped prestigious Woodlands Dairy Showtime awards, and five of the actors from Alice Through the Looking Glass received Showtime Actor Awards.

Tickets cost R110 for adults and R90 for learners and pensioners. Block bookings for a minimum of 20 people, cost R70 per person.

Tickets are available at Quicket.
