HUMANSDORP – Residents of Humansdorp are being urged to take a stand following a rise in acts of infrastructure sabotage that are placing the community at risk.
According to Kouga Municipality, the latest incident occurred on 16 April near Kruisfontein Primary School, where a wire was deliberately thrown across an overhead power line.
The act is believed to have been carried out with the intention of damaging essential infrastructure that serves the broader community.
Municipal officials have indicated that this is not an isolated occurrence, but part of a growing trend of similar incidents in the area.
Of particular concern is that those responsible are allegedly known within the community, with local youth increasingly being drawn into destructive activities.
Despite ongoing efforts and a visible presence on the ground, the incidents persist.
The municipality warned that damage to infrastructure has far-reaching consequences, affecting households, schools, businesses and essential services, while also posing serious safety risks.
The community is now being called upon to take collective responsibility in addressing the issue.
Residents are encouraged to report any information related to those responsible, as well as individuals who may be enabling or benefiting from such acts.
The municipality emphasised that protecting public infrastructure is a shared duty and urged residents to work together to safeguard the future of the town.
