Following the success of the inaugural Humansdorp Community Festival last year, the second festival will be hosted this year by the Khoi Kulcha Foundation, in partnership with Kouga Municipality, on March 22 and 23, at Twisters in Park Road, Humansdorp. Spectators can expect a thrilling line-up of artists and activities.
As previously reported by Kouga Express, last year’s festival was the first of its kind in the Humansdorp area, with the main objectives of the event focused on bringing families together and attracting positivity in the town plagued with various socio-economic challenges, which includes drugs and gangsterism.
Event manager, Manda Manuel, said that the idea and vision were to host the festival as an annual event on the Kouga events calendar.
She said that last year they had approximately 3 000 people attend the two-day festival; however this year they are expecting at least 6 000 attendees since they will be showcasing a bigger line-up of live performances, and more activities.
Manuel said that since the town is filled with various negative elements, the festival acts as a beacon of light.
She further said that the festival also changes the narrative of the circumstances faced by many, while giving the community something positive to look forward to.
“With the lack of leisure activities in the community, this festival is an ideal weekend out for the entire family and offers families the opportunity to do something together,” said Manuel.
“This event also keeps youngsters away from crime and substance abuse.”
Manuel further said that the goal of the event is to offer a place of belonging for the community of Humansdorp.
She said that the event, which starts at 12:00 each day, will offer a jam-packed programme with Early B as the main artist.
In addition, they will have performances by Justin Vega, Junior King, and the PE boys, DJ Dani (Danielle Whitebooi) and Ouma Sarie (Moses Williams).
The programme will also feature a variety of local artists, including Ghetto Prophet (Chelton Windvogel), The Switch Dance Crew, and Matthew Keli as the master of ceremonies.
“Apart from the live performers there will also be five-a-side soccer, Miss Humansdorp modelling competition, TikTok dance challenge competition, carnival rides, food trucks, and a variety of stalls,” said Manuel.
Since the town of Humansdorp will celebrate its 175th anniversary, to give back to the community, she said that they will donate a portion of their ticket sales to the Humansdorp Museum.
“We will be donating 30 percent of all online tickets to the museum, as they are our main beneficiary,” said Manuel.
Tickets cost R50 per day and R20 for children, and can be purchased on Quicket or by contacting ticket agents on 064 180 8124 or 061 254 1398.
