The Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crime court sentenced administrative clerk, Nadia Basson (39) on September 6, for charges of theft from her employer, Dagsbreek Eiers in Humansdorp.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, during the period between January 1, 2020, to July 31, 2020, Basson in her capacity as an administrative clerk at Dagsbreek Eiers in Zwartenbosch, Humansdorp misappropriated funds.

She said that payments made by clients which were collected by truck drivers and paid over to her were not deposited to the business account.

“The investigations by the Gqeberha-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of the Hawks revealed that the business was prejudiced cash to the value of more than R207 000,” said Mgolodela.

She further said that Basson was arrested on February 14, 2022, and she was released on warning.

Mgolodela said that she made several court appearances before her ultimate sentencing on September 6.

“Basson was given five years direct imprisonment sentence of which two years is suspended for five years which implies that Basson will be under incarceration for three years,” said Mgolodela.
