THE Fourth industrial revolution is a tech-driven era where robotics, automation and big data analytics are transforming how we live and work. To keep up with the world’s future needs, it is important for learners to be introduced to these technologies.
Therefore, the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre in Kariega will be hosting a holiday programme from 4-8 October themed Plugged-in Pupils, for Grade 1 to 11 learners, introducing them to coding and robotics.
According to Zingisa Gono, Education and Programmes Coordinator at Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology, coding and robotics are aimed at guiding and preparing learners to solve problems, think critically, including to work collaboratively and creatively, as well as function in a digital and information-driven world.
“During the five days children will get an opportunity to be introduced to coding and robotics, build small robots using Lego equipment, and explore our Science Centre and play games in the gaming area,” said Gono.
“For those who would like to join the programme at home, holiday programme packs will be made available with worksheets and links to download coding software and links to videos with instructions.”
All the children participating in the in-house programme will receive a holiday goodie bag with resources and activities to complete at home.
Booking is essential for those who wish to participate in the in-house programme as space is available for only 20 individuals, in adhering to COVID-19 protocol. The cost is R10 per child per day for in-house programme and R20 per holiday pack for those who wish to join the programme in the comfort of their homes.
