Humansdorp-based photographer and filmmaker, Jonathan Phyllis, who has always remained dedicated to the community, plans to write a historical e-book about his town, which will be released on various digital platforms.

As previously reported by the Kouga Express, Phyllis is the founder of Humansdorp My Plek, a Facebook page which showcases his photographic work.

Since its establishment two years ago, the Facebook page has accumulated at least 8 000 followers.

With the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on his photography business, Phyllis began taking pictures of his community and surrounding areas to keep busy which he then posted on his Facebook page.

Apart from his photography business, Phyllis also created an online television channel, Kwai Kat TV, on social media to uplift his community which was plagued by gangsterism and gang-related killings.

Now with more than 5 000 pictures on Humansdorp my Plek, he decided to create an e-book of some of the pictures on his page.

Local photographer and videographer, Jonathan Phyllis, plans to release an historical e-book about Humansdorp, which will be made available on various digital platforms.

The e-book will also feature updates about the people he has interviewed on Kwai Kat TV.

“I don’t want to give too much information about the book, but what I can say is that it will be worth it. Everyone in Humansdorp knows that when I put my mind on something, I do it,” said Phyllis.

In the e-book he also plans to include stories about families who have lost their loved ones during the past two years, as part of the ‘fallen legends’ chapter.

“The book is still in the early stages, but I hope to have it ready by the end of June this year,” said Phyllis.

He said the e-book will be available online, but people will need to pay to download the book.

“I speak under correction, but this historical e-book will be a first for Humansdorp and it can be used as a book of remembrance for years to come,” said Phyllis.
