Kouga Municipality is set to embark on a “whole of society approach” in a bid to formulate an achievable and lasting strategy to effectively address the myriad of road infrastructure challenges facing the municipality.

These challenges can be attributed to the age of the existing infrastructure, and the method of construction in the 1970s.

Add to this the vast and rapid population growth in Kouga, and the adverse weather conditions.

With the campaign, dubbed Help Rescue Kouga’s Road, the municipality is calling on all road engineers and road contractors to help rescue the region’s roads.

As a municipality, we recognise the pivotal role that various stakeholders – including the business sector, private sector, community-based organisations, and individuals – can play in finding achievable and lasting solutions to the problem that affects all of us.
Kouga Executive mayor, Hattingh Bornman

“We acknowledge that to truly achieve progress, we all need to take hands and work together as a broader cross-section of society.”

Stakeholder engagement meeting

The municipality will establish an official stakeholder platform for interested parties to engage in an ongoing strategy to rescue Kouga’s roads, collaborating on finding solutions to existing challenges.

All stakeholders that believe they can contribute towards this initiative are invited to attend a first-of-its-kind stakeholder engagement meeting at Mentors Country Estate in Jeffreys Bay from 16:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, September 12.

Contributions can be in the form of expertise, advice (civil, financial or engineering), finances, assistance with plant or product, or any other contribution.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Kouga chief of staff, Kyle Minnaar, at 082 574 8316. Alternatively, send an email to kminnaar@kouga.gov.za
