In a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle among learners and their parents at Jeffreys Bay Primary School, the school, in partnership with PSG Wealth Financial Planning, will be hosting its third Wild Life Run on February 24, when runners will enjoy the spectacular surroundings of the Lombardini Game Farm.
In 2022 the staff at Jeffreys Bay Primary, Heinrich Crouse, Samantha Wessels and Meri Janse van Rensburg, had a vision of promoting a healthy lifestyle, and good lifestyle choices, among the learners and their parents at the school.
Crouse, who is the head of sport at the school, said that to fulfil their vision they wanted to do something different by hosting a trail run, which was made possible by assistance from the school.
Ahead of the annual trail run on February 24, he said that they enforce “health week” at the school where the learners are educated about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.
Crouse said,
Wessels, a teacher at the school, said the race is developed to cater for all ages and fitness levels and includes a 3.8 km moms-and-toddler walk, a 6 km sprint, a 12 km race and a challenging 23 km race.
Lombardini Game Farm has opened the gates to their beautiful farm to allow the runners to enjoy the spectacular surroundings during the event.
Wessels said,
As part of the eventful day, a large tent with food and drinks will be available for runners to enjoy after their run.
Van Rensburg, a teacher at the school, said the participants can look forward to enjoying the sight of various animals, including zebra, giraffe, impala, rhino, kudu, and numerous species of buck.
“The rhinos will be fenced off in a different camp and will have security escorting them,” said Van Rensburg.
She further said that, as part of the event, they have great prizes up for grabs for the runners, as well as a lucky draw.
Van Rensburg said that Casio and Gabrielle Jewellers have sponsored Casio smart watches for the first female and male runners in the 6 km, 12 km and 23 km race.
Additional sponsors include Body20, Nuslim, PSG, and Lombardini Game Farm.
“We started a partnership with PSG in 2023 as the main sponsor for our race. PSG will also sponsor 300 pairs of limited-edition socks to the first 90 entrants of the 6 km, 140 entrants of the 12km, and 50 entrants of the 23km,” said Van Rensburg.
She further said that there will be five water points on the course, each sponsored by various local businesses, such as Cape Cross, Huizemark, Exec Ops, Body20 and Herman Pieterse Attorneys.
Wessels said that REMS Medical Services will be on standby, with a state-of-the-art mobile clinic for any injuries or assistance needed by the runners.
“We are excited for another successful event,” said Wessels.
Tickets cost R60 per person for the 3.8 km and 6 km walk, R120 for the 12 km race, and R190 for the 23 km adventure race.
Jeffreys Bay Primary School learners will pay R30 for the 3.8 km or 6 km walk, while children under the age of four enter free.
Tickets can be purchased on the ZSports website, www.zsports.co.za.
Entries close on February 22, with late entries opening on February 24, and an additional fee of R30 will be charged.
