A middle-aged couple was held at gunpoint and tied with electric cables while robbers ransacked their house on a farm in Hankey in the vicinity of the R331 last night, August 19.

Just before 19:00, four men wearing balaclavas and armed with firearms, allegedly broke the glass of a sliding door and stormed into the house.

The victims, aged 56 and 60 years, were tied up while the suspects allegedly opened a safe and stole a firearm with an unknown number of rounds of ammunition.

Police spokesperson, Sgt. Majola Nkohli, said that the suspects also made off with jewellery, two flat screen TVs, a laptop, cell phones and liquor.

“About an hour later, the victims managed to free themselves and activated an alarm. The victims were not injured during the incident. A case of house robbery was opened for further investigation,” Nkohli said.

Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Detective Captain Trevor Engelbrecht on 082 441 7735.
