A 35-year-old man appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on December 9 after he was arrested by the Gqeberha Public Order Policing (POP) while hiding out at a barbershop in Jeffreys Bay recently.

The man was found in possession of a prohibited firearm and unlicensed ammunition.

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, on December 6, the first day of their deployment in the Sarah Baartman District, members of the Gqeberha POP were conducting routine patrols on Mandela Street, Jeffreys Bay, when they noticed a suspicious man entering a nearby barbershop after spotting the police vehicles.

“The members followed him and found him inside the barbershop. He was searched, and a firearm with ammunition was found in his possession,” said Nkohli.

He further said that the serial number on the firearm had been filed off, and it would be sent for ballistics tests and forensic analysis.
