Tragedy struck the Bezuidenhout family when Claude (40), beloved husband and father of four, lost his courageous battle with stage 4 kidney failure just one month after diagnosis. To raise much-needed funding to support his family, his father, Desmond and their broader family, has arranged a golf day event on November 2 at Zwartenbosch Golf Club in Humansdorp.
Desmond revealed that his son, Claude, received a devastating diagnosis of stage 4 kidney failure just one month ago, with doctors estimating a life expectancy of approximately six months.
“Claude did not have any health issues before he suddenly became very ill recently and was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure,” said Desmond.
“The doctors gave him only six months to live, but we prayed, believed, and trusted that he would have more time.”
Following his diagnosis, Claude relocated from KwaZulu-Natal to his home town, Humansdorp.
Sadly, he passed away on October 17, a few weeks after his diagnosis.
Desmond said his late son was quiet, lovable, and well-known in his community as friendly and helpful.
Claude, the breadwinner for his family, leaves behind his wife and four children whose ages range from 18 years to just three months old.
“As a family, we are doing okay. We are trying our best to cope with Claude’s passing,” said Desmond.
He mentioned that before Claude’s passing, one of his last wishes was to arrange a golf day to raise funds for his wife and children.
Inspired by their joint love of golf, Desmond initiated plans for a golf day fundraiser at Zwartenbosch Golf Club after Claude’s diagnosis.
Registration for the golf day, which will start at 08:00, is set at R280 per participant, including a halfway house.
Desmond said that there would be prizes for all players, a water hole, and live music by local talent, Brave Dave Schickerling.
