JEFFREYS BAY – The Global Leadership Academy enjoyed a positive start to its rugby season recently with two solid victories against Daniel Pienaar Technical High School.
GLA head coach, Mikael van der Mescht, said that the U/15A side delivered a hard-fought 24–17 win over Daniel Pienaar’s U/15C team in a closely contested match.
He further said that with the scores locked at 17–17 heading into the final minutes, GLA managed to break through with a decisive late try to secure the victory.
“Levi Meier produced a standout performance and was named Man of the Match for his impact throughout the game,” said Van der Mescht.
He said that the first team followed up with an impressive 42–17 win against Daniel Pienaar’s U/19 fifth team.
GLA showed strong attacking intent and control, with tries scored by Sange Fihla, Keanon Koopman, Cassie van der Merwe, Jan-Hendrik van der Merwe and Tshireletso Masilo.
Koopman also delivered a composed performance with the boot, converting four of his five attempts.
“Both teams showed encouraging structure, energy and commitment, marking a strong foundation for the season ahead,” said Van der Mescht.
According to the coaching staff, the focus this year extends beyond results, with an emphasis on developing well-rounded sportsmen who grow in character, discipline and leadership, both on and off the field.
The season continues with a full fixture list ahead as GLA rugby looks to build on this early momentum.
