GEORGE-BASED film and media training provider, iKasi Creative Media, in collaboration with the Kouga Wind Farm, will be presenting a free film and digital media orientation programme in Humansdorp, from April 12 to 16, and in St Francis Bay, from May 3 to 7.

Non-profit organisation, iKasi Creative Media, was established in 2017, by Lika Berning, Lamise Inglis and Khanya Sosibo, each with many years of experience in the film, TV, and entertainment industry.

According to Berning, since the establishment of their NPO four years ago, their film and digital media orientation programme has been operating across the West Coast and Garden Route.

“iKasi Creative Media’s vision is to bring hope and purpose to marginalised and previously disadvantaged youth, to empower them to unlock employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in digital media, in their towns and to tell their own stories using accessible technology,” said Berning.

She further said the five-day orientation would be a great opportunity for young residents from each town to learn new skills, which would equip them to use their cellphones to tell their own stories.

Those who are interested in participating in the five-day programme have to be aged between 18 and 35, have a matric certificate and should not be working full time.

Berning said after the training, at least 25 learners would be selected to participate in their accredited three-month skills programme, which would give learners access to industry professionals, who offer training in the various filmmaking departments.

She said the practical component of the training was a 24-minute documentary about the history of the area, looking specifically at forced removals and the displacement of people.

“Learners will be guided through the technical aspects of the script-to-screen process. Those who complete the full programme will be issued a MICT SETA-accredited certificate,” said Berning.
