With his experience of being homeless for many years and receiving the guidance he needed to get on his feet again from Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Jeffreys Bay, a volunteer Christian organisation, Abdurrahman April is now paying it forward by helping the homeless in his community.

For many years, April was homeless and battled a drug addiction.

Fortunately, in 2020 when he joined YWAM, his life changed for the better.

April said he completed a five-month programme at YWAM, which taught him about the importance of helping the poor and needy.

“The programme I completed at YWAM changed my life and since then I have seen the good fruits that God gives and how He has turned people’s lives around,” said April.

Since he knew the many challenges faced by people who were homeless and observing the YWAM group handing out food to people in need in the community, he felt encouraged to help the homeless as much as he could with the little he had.

“I saw that many of my friends were still homeless, and I tried helping by giving them food and of my clothes and shoes,” said April. He said since he started helping the homeless, he has continued sharing his message to all he meets, in the hope that someone would be able to help him with his initiative.

Thankfully, last month he received maize meal from a generous donor which he then donated to the homeless in his area.

April said his goal is to help the homeless find a shelter and get regular meals.

“I trust God to help me with this project and I believe that He will put people on my path that will help me give more to the homeless,” said April.

“I pray for support to bring light in my community.”
