The two separate fires that are being co-ordinated from the joint
Operation centre (Coldsream in Lottering and Koomansbos in Witelsbos) are still
ongoing this morning.
According to Nthabiseng Mokone, Communications Officer from Working on Fire (WOF), the fire started yesterday, 21 June and WoF teams have been working
very hard in partnership with Southern Cape Fire Protection alongside MTO
Forestry, SANParks, KouKamma Fire Department, Sarah Baartman Fire Protection,
EC Umbrella FPA and Sarah Baartman District Municipality in an effort to combat
this fire.
“More than 100 firefighters from six teams (two from Southern Cape and
four from Eastern Cape) resumed for day shift relieving the teams that were
working at night,” Mokone said.

Working on Fire is the department of Forestry, Fisheries and
Environment’s program that help in fighting veld and forest fires.
“The wind is calm at the moment and the FDI is standing at yellow this
morning. Firefighters are busy constructing a control that will assist in
preventing fires from reaching other areas.
“The N2 has been opened this morning and drivers are advised to be cautious
and vigilant. No structures have been affected by this fire yet and the cause of the fire
is still unknown.”
