KOUGA fire-fighters battled for more than three hours to bring a veld fire under control in very windy conditions near Tarragona Road at St Francis Bay on September 13.
A call was received by the department from a local resident at 15:00, alerting them to a blaze in the vegetation at Tarragona.
Fire-fighters from St Francis Bay were immediately dispatched to the area, with teams from Humansdorp, Jeffreys Bay and Hankey providing additional help.
Community Services Portfolio Councillor Daniel Benson said the teams managed to bring the fire under control at 17:40 and it was fully extinguished at 18:35.
“The first priority was to divert the fire away from the houses. The area was also hea-vily dampened to minimise the risk of flare-ups. We would like to thank the resident for acting responsibly and would like to encourage all residents not to hesitate to call our emergency room in such situations,” said Benson.
