A diverse range of sporting disciplines is gearing up to compete in this year’s annual Kouga Mayoral Cup tournament.
Top athletes in soccer, rugby, netball, golf, tennis, cricket, chess, boxing, gymnastics, volleyball, and touch rugby will once again compete for prestigious honours in this highly anticipated tournament. Kouga Municipality is also optimistic about incorporating additional sport into the line-up, attracting even more participants than the previous year’s Mayoral Cup that saw 2 084 participants across 18 sporting codes engaged in fierce competition. The final day witnessed 979 participants in action, accompanied by 45 officials overseeing the event.
Accredited sporting codes not yet affiliated with the Mayoral Cup are cordially invited to submit their entries before 31 January. It is crucial to highlight that only participants associated with a sporting association are eligible to enter.
The adrenaline-fuelled tournament is scheduled to span two months, from March to April, aligning with the theme “Growing Together”.
Reflecting on the success of previous years, where themes such as “Shaping the Future” in 2022, and “Breaking Barriers” in 2023, fostered unity and excellence in the Kouga region, confidence is high for collective efforts towards a common cause.
“The focus of this year’s Mayoral Cup is to establish a benchmark for the growth of this prestigious event in the Kouga region,” said Kouga executive mayor, Hattingh Bornman. “The primary objective is to encourage individuals from all walks of life in Kouga to actively participate in various competitive sporting activities, fostering pride and social cohesion in the community.
