This festive season, Kouga visitors and residents have many opportunities to experience the Gamtoos Valley at its best.
One of the stops that should be on any itinerary when visiting the area is a visit to the Mooihoek Farm in Hankey. Visitors to Mooihoek Strawberry Farm can come and pick their own fresh strawberries during the summer holiday, from December 4 to January 8 from 08:00 to 16:00. They are closed on Sundays and December 25.
No booking is required but it is recommended that bookings are made for groups larger than 15 people.
Visitors can purchase a tub from the Farm Stall and head off to the designated strawberry picking fields. Only persons who purchase a tub are allowed in the picking fields (children under 4 are allowed to share a tub).
Entry is R20 for children and R30 for adults and tubs are R40 for children and R60 for adults. For more info visit www.mooihoek.com.
For those with a taste for honey and gin, a visit to the Pabala Private Nature Reserve is a must. They offer a daily honey tasting at 12:00 at a cost of R195 per person. Pre-booking is required and the duration is an hour.
Pabala also offers Craft Gin Tastings daily at 14:00. The cost is R195 per person to taste the “wild side of Gin”, crafted and bottled in the Gamtoos Valley. Pre-booking is required and the duration is 2 hours.
