Inspired by their dog, Eskimo, that died six years ago, the owners of JBay Bru Co restaurant will host a Christmas drive where they encourage people to donate much-needed items for animals.
These will go to JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary, and in return they will offer a free drink with any meal ordered, to those who donate to the worthy cause.
As previously reported by Kouga Express, the sanctuary is a non-profit organisation located in Ocean View Township in Jeffreys Bay which mainly focuses on providing temporary shelter for dogs and cats, and sterilises at least 80 animals each month throughout the Kouga region.
Sanctuary manager, Cindy Muller, said that the sanctuary currently has 18 dogs, 27 kittens and 17 cats that they need to take care of.
Since they have so many animals on the premises, and regularly embark on spay days throughout the region, they are always in need of a variety of items, especially food and blankets which are used in large quantities when they sterilise animals at various locations.
“We can never have enough of the items we desperately need,” said Muller.
“Since we take care of so many animals we use food, toys, water and blankets in large amounts.”
Muller said that they often must buy the necessary essentials for the sanctuary with funds that have been donated.
Lucy Erasmus, co-owner of JBay Bru Co, said that their restaurant has always been passionate about animals, and even have their late dog, Eskimo, depicted on a surfboard as part of their logo.
In addition to this, she said that their restaurant is pet-friendly.
“We are passionate about helping those who cannot help themselves,” said Erasmus.
She said they have hosted multiple fundraising events for the sanctuary, but this will be their first Christmas drive.
Erasmus said that they have previously hosted a wine-tasting event and a biltong and wine event, where they sold raffles to raise funds for the sanctuary.
In addition to this, as an ongoing fundraising initiative, they also have a bookshelf in the restaurant where people are encouraged to buy an inexpensive book.
All monies from the book sales are then donated to the sanctuary.
In honour of Eskimo, their house beer, Eskimo Lager, is the only beer local to their restaurant and is also used as a fundraising initiative.
“To further raise funds, for each litre of Eskimo Lager sold, we donate R5 to the sanctuary,” said Erasmus.
The restaurant is situated at 10 Da Gama Road, Jeffreys Bay.
Items needed for the sanctuary include:
. Dog and cat food
. Toys
. Tennis balls
. Five litre water bottles filled with water
. Leads and collars
. Towels
. Cleaning supplies
