NINE players from the Sarah Baartman District have been invited to participate in the exclusive, by-invitation-only, South African Junior Closed Chess Championship, taking place in the Western Cape from March 31 to April 5.

These players have shown admirable grit and determination to be ranked among the top players in the country in their respective age groups.

The Jeffreys Bay Chess Club would like to congratulate Waldemar Swart (u/10), Bulumko Ndumela (u/10), and Marize Retief (u/10), Anaya Ludick (u/12), Pedro Stuurman (u/14) and Somila Ngqoyiya (u/14), Dominic Powell (u/18), Tamia Booysen (u/20), and San-Marie Janse van Rensburg (u/20) and commend their hard work and dedication to the sport.

Furthermore, Waldemar (Jeffreys Bay Primary School), Bulumko (Makukhanye Primary School), Anaya (Pharos School), Somila (Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive), and Pedro (Nico Malan High School) ranked among the top 10 players in our country in their respective age groups and have been invited to represent South Africa at the FIDE World Cadet and FIDE World & Youth Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2025.

The Championships will take place in Rhodes, Greece from April 12 to 18.

These talented chess players demonstrate a genuine love for the game, which drives continuous learning and improvement of their skills. They combine intellect, practice, and a deep appreciation for the intricacies of the game to establish themselves among the top-ranked players internationally.
