As part of Fountains Mall’s Heritage Expo, on September 28 from 10:00, Oasis FM will host a thrilling Community Potjiekos Competition at Die Werf, Fountains Mall in Jeffreys Bay, with this year’s theme set as Ubuntu, to celebrate the diversity of South Africa’s heritage.
As previously reported, Oasis FM, which is a Christian community radio station licensed for the Sarah Baartman District with their main studio based in Jeffreys Bay, was established by Bernadette Swartz and her husband, André, in 2018.
Broadcasting in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa, Oasis FM’s mission is to provide a platform for relevant programming aimed at bringing hope, restoring values, and educating listeners.
Following a successful inaugural event in 2022, the Community Potjiekos Competition has continued to thrive, with Fountains Mall coming on board as official sponsors for the first time this year.
Previously hosted at the radio station’s premises in Kwagga Street with 10 participating teams, Swartz said this year’s event has almost doubled in size, with close to 20 teams registered.
“Oasis FM is a community radio station, and we have always ensured that our events bring the community together.
“This competition will be no different. We have schools, churches, businesses, and organisations taking part in this competition,” said Swartz.
By featuring performances from local music and dance schools, she said the event fosters creativity and provides a platform for emerging artists to shine.
To add to the excitement, Swartz said the event will feature interactive boeresports activities, engaging attendees of all ages.
She said everyone is encouraged to support the event and indulge in delicious potjiekos, by purchasing a plate for just R40.
“By purchasing a plate of potjiekos, not only will visitors get to savour the variety of flavours, but they will also get to vote for their favourite dish in the Community’s Choice category,” said Swartz.
She further mentioned that additional prizes, determined by a panel of judges, will be awarded.
The first-place winner will be crowned the Community Potjiekos Competition Winner 2024, and will receive a trophy along with a R500 Fountains Mall voucher.
The runners-up will also receive a trophy and a R350 Fountains Mall voucher, while the third-place winner will be awarded a trophy and a R250 Fountains Mall voucher.
The Community’s Choice winner will receive a trophy.
Additionally, the boeresports winner will walk away with a special Fountains Mall voucher.
“This is a family event, so bring the whole family along.”
