CANSA Shavathon returns to Fountains Mall this Saturday

JEFFREYS BAY – Fountains Mall will host the annual CANSA Shavathon on Saturday, 11 July, from 10:00 to 15:00, giving the community an opportunity to show solidarity with those affected by cancer while raising vital funds for one of South Africa’s most recognised cancer organisations.

The CANSA Shavathon is one of CANSA’s best-known fundraising and awareness campaigns. It began in 2003 in the Eastern Cape and has since grown into a national movement.

This year’s theme, “Be Courageous”, captures the spirit of the event: standing with cancer survivors, supporting those currently undergoing treatment, and remembering loved ones who have passed away.

Participation is open to everyone. Those who wish to take part can shave their hair, spray or stencil their hair in bright temporary colours, or donate hair of 25 centimetres or longer to help make wigs for cancer patients. Those who prefer not to shave or spray may contribute a Bail Out Fee instead.

Donations are R50 for adults and R25 for children under 12.

Funds raised go directly towards CANSA’s work, including emotional support and counselling, patient care programmes, cancer screening and early detection initiatives, health education, medical equipment hire, CANSA Care Homes for patients who must travel for treatment and ongoing cancer research and advocacy.

The Shavathon also offers an opportunity for schools, workplaces, churches and community groups to come together around a powerful shared message: “You are not alone. We stand with you.”
