WITH his beautiful big blue eyes and infectious laugh, Cayson Coenraad from Humansdorp, who at just 10-months-old has brought his family more love than he could ever imagine, is this year’s Kouga Express Christmas Baby competition winner.
According to his mother, Charein, Cayson, who has been nicknamed “Caysi Cays”, came into the world like a blaze of fire on February 12, and has not stopped blazing ever since.
Having just given birth to her daughter, Lu’Cah (2), six months earlier, she was understandably nervous when she learnt that she was pregnant again with a baby boy.
Before giving birth to her son, Charein said people often tried to warn her and her husband, Luciano, of what was to come.
“People would tell me that having two kids under the age of two was very different from having one and in that way insinuating that the change was not necessarily for the better,” said Charein.
Despite the negative comments, she said Cayson and Lu’Cah made being parents a delightful and satisfying adventure and raising them has been a breeze.
With the meaning of his name being “one who heals, brave and courageous boy”, Cayson has lived up to his name as his family refer to him as their “busy bee” and an independent little rascal who is very adamant about what he wants.
“He has grown into the most handsome and precious boy that we have ever known, and he has brought his family more love than he could ever imagine,” said Charein.
Charein said her WhatsApp contacts motivated her to enter the Kouga Express Christmas Baby competition and she was pleasantly surprised when she learnt that he had won.
“I was extremely excited when I learnt that Caysi had won the baby competition. All the babies who entered the competition were so cute, so I did not expect it at all,” said Charein.
With his charming personality and adorable little face Cayson won the competition and has been chosen to feature on the front page of the Kouga Express.
She said her son enjoys a wide variety of activities but climbing and playing with keys are two of his favourite activities.
Cayson also enjoys music and banging anything he can find as if he were playing the drums.
Despite having not yet cut his first tooth, Cayson loves eating sweet potatoes, eggs, yogurt and butternut squash. Charain said that Cayson and Lu’Cah fight often and she occasionally acts as if she were his “deputy parent”, but he is completely smitten with her.
Charein said since her son is a terrible sleeper, he wakes up at 04:00 and starts off his morning babbling to himself while his sister’s authoritative response is often “sleep Cays”.
“He is the happiest and sweetest baby we could have ever asked for and we are so thankful to have him as ours forever,” said Charein.
In three days’ time, Cayson will be celebrating his first Christmas alongside his family, and he can look forward to finding a music walker and a baby play set under his Christmas tree.
“To us Christmas means commemorating the birth of Jesus and family time,” said Charein.
