The annual Build It Soccer and Netball Festival was held on August 27 at the Tokyo Sexwale Stadium.

The festival is a programme held annually for u/13 soccer and netball players to reach out to schools in the community and to help build a future for young children.

Divecha Pringle, Build It Jeffreys Bay branch admin assistant said, “The programme is aimed at helping our children reach their goals in life, to improve their sporting skills and to show them that we at Build It want to help them reach their goals.”

As part of the programme, medals were handed out to the winning teams while the winning soccer team received a soccer kit, soccer bags, and a trophy.

The netball teams were given netball vests, medals, and a trophy. In addition, the best soccer and netball player of the day were each given a trophy. The players were also givena meal on the day.

Pringle said, 

Build It wants to upskill the kids . No matter what obstacles they face in life, we want them to be able to have a ‘yes we can’ motto within their team and as individuals,” said Pringle.

At least seven soccer teams and three netball teams participated in the event.

JBay Stars walked away as the soccer winners while Wits for Jeffreys Bay were the netball winners.

“We also wish to thank Mapa Kapa TV who were present on the day and will be showcasing the event on DStv channel 260 as separate coverage,” said Pringle.

“Build It also wishes to thank everyone who participated on the day and we hope that next year the programme will reach more schools and more kids will participate.”

Pringle said that they would also like to thank SAFA Union for their assistance at the event.
