On Wednesday, July 24, local authorities, with the
assistance of Kouga Municipality, successfully averted a potential tragedy
through timely intervention and the use of technology.
A statement released by the Kouga Municipality indicated that
concerned family members alerted the authorities about their fears that a
relative might be attempting to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge.
The family provided a description of the vehicle they
believed the individual was driving.
The statement further said that thanks to the advanced NAVIC
LPR (License Plate Recognition) camera system, authorities were able to track
the vehicle’s route in real-time.
The system pinpointed the vehicle’s location as it
approached a nearby bridge.
“Upon receiving this crucial information, responders swiftly
coordinated their efforts. The family member, who had also arrived near the
bridge, was promptly assisted by local authorities on the scene,” the statement
said.
“Their timely intervention helped avert a potential tragedy
and ensured the individual received the support they needed.”
