Local and national paddlers, open water swimmers and adrenaline junkies will descend on Kouga from March 18-21 – all geared up to have some fun.
The inaugural Cape St Francis Resort Amanzi Challenge has a red-hot line-up of events: national inflatable boat racing, open-water night swim, trail run, and paddling.
According to St Francis Tourism office manager, Hantie van der Westhuizen, they have approached Zweli Nkwinti of BS Sport to expand the successful Amanzi Challenge, hosted in Port Alfred in previous years.
“The greater St Francis area offers the same amazing opportunities for beach and water sport,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“We are extremely excited and proud to host the wonderful event in our region this month.”
The event will kick off with a closed opening ceremony on the Friday, followed by body boarding at Cape St Francis Main Beach on the Saturday.
The national inflatable boat racing will take to the water just off the Aldabara run car park in St Francis Bay from 09:00-16:00 on Saturday and from 09:00-13:30 on Sunday.
“We are super excited to host this event in our first year,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“More than 40 boats will compete over the two days.”
Also a first is the open-water night swim at The Quays in Sea Glades Drive at 18:45 on Saturday. This will be followed by an event set to “light up” the canals.
Body boarding will kick off the action at 07:00 on Sunday, followed by the Thula Moya Trail Run at the Dune Ridge Country House at 08:00.
Paddlers will take to the water at the Quays in Sea Glades Drive at 10:00. The event consists of three courses: guppy, short and long.
Prize-giving is at Cape St Francis Resort at 15:00.
Spectators are welcome at all the different events.
The event is sponsored by the Cape St Francis Resort and Kouga Municipality.
