ANY adventurers out there wanting to combine healthy outdoor living with physical and mental exercise? Then the Chokka trail is the answer to your dreams, since it affords a restful hike in the greater St Francis area for 4 days/three nights or 4 days/four nights.
This initiative owned by Eric and Esti Stewart boasts an all inclusive guided walk in beautiful surroundings – a reality enhanced by their being awarded Satours Lilizela Award for the Best Visitors Experience in 2016 and 2017. The owners recently opened the trail for nature lovers who want to leave modern comforts for a couple of days. Maps and Strava routes will be supplied.
Chokka trail 3 days/2 nights
From the Oyster Kayas in Oyster Bay hikers will start walking to Klippenpunt, which is the furthest point of the beach. Hikers who want to skip the extra burden of catering for themselves, may arrange beforehand for meals at the Oyster Kayas Deli.
On the second day they will encounter the Sand River 16km dune bypass. From their destination for the day, the Eskom Conservation Area, they will be transported to the Cape St Francis Resort where they will discover that backpackers do not have to sleep fitfully. The next day will see them do a two- hour hike to Clive’s Chokka Block in St Francis Bay, where a calamari tasting treat awaits them.
An extra night’s stay (at additional cost) in the Oyster Kayas and a retour stroll along the shoreline to Thyspunt could be worth the while.
Chokka trail 5 days/4 nights
Instead of one night, hikers spend two nights at each of the Oyster Kayas and St Francis Resort. For the extra day’s hiking adventure, adventurers will be transported to the Eskom Conservation Area. From there the trail leads through a forest, over dunes and along a coastal thicket to Mostertshoek. The rest of the walk is along the shoreline, past the Sea Point Lighthouse back to the Cape St Francis Resort.
Cars and food needed may be left at the St Francis Resort, since a shuttle service is available. Apart from food, visitors must have their own sleeping bags and towels.
