‘CHASE’ colourful wild flowers, drink beer on-the-go, paint your face, enjoy live music and tackle various trail runs – all this weekend.
The Seal Point Wildflower Festival, joining forces with the third annual Oktoberfest, is set to take over Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay from October 12 to October 14.
Festivalgoers can look forward to an educational Wild Flower Chase, adrenaline-packed trail runs, a fun beer run and live music.
Wild Flower Chase
Nature-lovers can look forward to an educational Wild Flower Chase over the weekend – focusing on the co-lours and varieties of the abundant indigenous flora at the four local wildflower reserves.
Hosted by globally renowned vegetation ecologist and conservation scientist, Prof. Richard Cowling, and expert botanist Dave Bowman, the event will consist of an information session in the Fynbos Lounge at Cape St Francis Resort, followed by a flower chase.
The different wild flower chases will take place at 12:00 on October 12, at 10:00 and 14:00 on October 13 and at 10:00 on October 14.
The cost is R130 per person and includes a light lunch and a donation to FOSTER.
Trail Run
For the more adventurous, there will be two adrenaline-packed trail runs on Saturday, October 13.
The 23km race will leave the starting blocks at 09:00, while those competing in the 10km event will take to the road at 09:30.
Runners will track through the Irma Booysen Nature Reserve, along the Rocky Coast Farm and the Wild-side, around the Cape St Francis Lighthouse and back to the starting point.
There will also be a 3km and 1km kid’s race at 12:30.
All three races will start and finish at Full Stop Café in Cape St Francis.
Beer run
Then it is time for cheers with the first-ever 4km Beer Run hosted by Liquid Lines and St Francis Brewing Company – a prelude to the third annual Oktoberfest set to take place at the newly revamped Full Stop Café situated in Da Gama Road, Cape St Francis.
The race, set to start at 15:00 at Full Stop Café, includes the challenge of drinking a pint of St Francis Brewing Company’s beer at four pit stops along the way.
The craft beers being showcased are Storm Rider (Stout), Wild Side (IPA), Lighthouse (Ale) and Beach Blonde (Light).
For the very adventurous, there is a complimentary fifth beer at the finish line – the award-winning Kromme River (Witbier).
The entry fee is R350 per participant, and includes a T-shirt and finisher’s medal.
Oktoberfest
The Beer Run will be followed by the Oktoberfest at 16:00. Beers available at the festival include brews from St Francis Brewing Company, Devils Peak Brewery, Poison City Brewery and SAB.
There will futhermore be German food platters and pretzels on sale in addition to the venue’s own a la carte menu.
Adding to the fun, is live music, as well as games and face painting from 16:00 to 19:00 for children.
Tickets cost R80 for adults and R40 for children. All tickets for the trail runs and beer run, include free entry into the Oktoberfest.
