JEFFREYS Bay will be home to the inaugural 2019 Beach Netball Tournament, presented by the Sarah Baartman Netball Association, from April 19 to 20 – a first for South Africa on this scale.
Sarah Baartman Netball Association Chairlady and event organiser, Anina Vlok, says, “Beach netball is just like ordinary netball – but not as we know it. It is a combination of netball and the beach – my two loves.
“Jeffreys Bay is the perfect location for beach netball.”
The tournament will see top netball teams from across South Africa battling it out in the four different categories: senior ladies (born 2000 and older), senior mixed (born 2000 and older), junior mixed (born between 2001 and 2006) and junior girls (born between 2001 and 2006).
A team must consist of no more than six players, with a maximum of three male players in the mixed team category. A maximum of four players and a minimum of three players will be allowed on the court at any given time.
A player may dive on the sand to catch a ball on the full or claim possession of a ball on the sand.
Matches will be two five-minute halves, with a minute interval between the halves.
There will also be a three minute break between the matches.

- Third Prize: R1 500 and medal (bronze)

- First Prize: R3 000, trophy and medal (gold)
- Second Prize: R2 000 and medal (silver)

- First Prize: R3 000, trophy and medal (gold)
- Second Prize: R2 000 and medal (silver)
- Third Prize: R1 000 and medal (bronze)
