ST Francis College (SFC) and the Kromme Estate will host an adrenaline-packed and a fun-filled Spring Walk and Run Festival at the school on Saturday, October 24.

Three courses of 2,5km, 5km and 10km races will accommodate all ages and fitness abilities. The hilly, off-road routes are challenging – taking participants along the edge of the Kromme River. All routes include a technical rocky section along a jeep track through the estate, rewarding athletes with a spectacular view of the river from the summit.

Longer routes traverse the farmlands via single-track with springbok, bushbuck, duiker, blue crane and other fauna frequenting the trails.

The 5km route returns along what is known as the “spine” of the farm, while the 10km walkers and runners continue on the jeep tracks – encountering more challenging sections that include some semi-technical single-tracks, a small river bed crossing and the run or walk back to the school along the boundary fence line. Then runners will hightail it back to the finish at the school buildings for some outdoor fun.

Post-race festivities will include food stalls, a coffee stand, a fun zone for the kids, adopt-a-teddy stand, lucky prize draws and a spring scavenger hunt for under six-year-olds.

According to SFC headmaster, Warwick Osmond, the goal of the event is threefold: to showcase St Francis College and why its learners are thriving even in these most challenging times; and to raise funds for renovations to the St. Francis College Nursery School.

All participants and festival-goers must wear a mask on the day.

The entry fee is R25 for the 2.5km run, and those for for the 5km and 10km events are R50 and R100 respectively
