MOTORISTS struggling to get their driving licences renewed, can breathe a sigh of relief.

All learner’s licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits, which expired from the start of the lockdown, have been granted a further grace period until next year.

Kouga Community Services Portfolio Councillor, Daniel Benson, said the extension had been gazetted by Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, on Thursday last week.

“In terms of the extension, all learner’s licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving permits, which expired from March 26, 2020 up to and including December 31, 2020, will be deemed valid until August 31, 2021,” he said.

Motorists can book a slot with the Kouga Traffic Department in Humansdorp to renew their licences by phoning 042 200 2200.

“We would also like to encourage motorists to complete and submit the customer satisfaction survey that we are conducting about our traffic licensing service,” Benson said.

“The survey forms are available on the municipal website and at the Traffic Department. The feedback we receive will be used to improve this important public service.”
