A young man from Pellsrus in Jeffrey’s Bay was killed in Graaff-Reinet where just three weeks ago he started as a first year student at East Cape Midlands TVET College.

One suspect has come forward as the Graaff-Reinet police continue to investigate the murder of 19-year-old Junade Faulkner, who was found lying at the corner of Hibiscus Street and Bree Street, Santaville in Graaff-Reinet on Monday, February 8.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, it is alleged that on Monday at about 21:30, Faulkner was found in the street with one gunshot wound to his forehead.

“While Graaff-Reinet police were attending to the scene of a crime, a 40-year-old man approached the police officials and alleged that he was the person who shot the deceased,” said Rawlinson.

“The 9mm firearm which is believed to be used in the shooting was recovered on the crime scene and will be sent for ballistic testing.”

Rawlinson said when the police and EMS arrived on the scene Faulkner was declared dead.

“The suspect was arrested and detained at Graaff-Reinet Police Station and is due to make his first court appearance at the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court today, February 10.”

Faulkner’s brother, Joshne shared an emotional message on his Instagram account.

“Just the other day Junade called me and said ‘please come home, I’m going away for college’ and I told him I’m coming. . . but I never did. I’m so sorry – if I knew that’s going to be the last time I’ll see you, I would have been there,” he wrote.

Joshne is a surfer from Pellsrus who was selected for the South African Junior Surf Team in 2014.
