Lebok strongly condemned the “senseless incident of mob justice”, which left two
men dead and four arrested for murder in Sea Vista, St Francis Bay on Saturday,
March 6.
According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, it is
alleged that on Saturday around 04:45 at Zwelitsha informal settlement in Sea
Vista, St Francis Bay, Thembalethu Mgebisa (40) got into a fight with Anga Tyali (32) about their supposed girlfriend.
“It is said that Mgebisa fatally stabbed Tyali several times
in the upper body, and he was declared dead at the scene,” said Nkohli.
Nkohli said it is further said upon hearing about Tyali’s
death, his friends began looking for the suspect, whom they found about an hour
later, at Cosovo informal settlement in Sea Vista.
“It is alleged that a group attacked Mgebisa using different
weapons. Mgebisa sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead on the
scene,” said Nkohli.
“Police investigation led to the arrest of four men for the
murder of Mgebisa, and with a possibility of additional arrests during the
course of the investigation.”
Nkohli said the suspects, aged between 23 and 42, are due to
appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court today, March 8 on charges of
murder.
Lebok said, “We
understand the trauma that comes with the loss of a loved one, especially when
that person was savagely attacked, however, we urge people
to exercise restraint and allow the law to take its course.”
