MEILI Howell, a Grade 7 learner at Victory Christian School, achieved great success when she represented her dance school at the World Dance Challenge in Gauteng, over the weekend.
She competed in the teen small group hip-hop and street dance division, as well as the senior large group hip-hop and street dance category. Both crews achieved first place.
In the words of her mother, Yolandi Howell, the main reason for the existence of this dance centre is to worship the Lord with their talents and to give it back unto Him by reaching their full potential.
The dance centre’s foundation rests upon the scriptures in Romans 12 which states, “Be a living sacrifice to God” and Psalms 149:3, “Let them praise His name with dance.”
Howell started dancing five years ago and currently dances with The Kingdom’s LAB Dance Centre, based in Pretoria. Her commitment to her sport and her crew is evident as she partakes in daily online training and travels to Pretoria to attend practice at the studio once a month if COVID-19 regulations allow her to do so.
Meili has placed first in nine competitions since 2018 and has won the honour of representing South Africa at the World Dance Masters in Croatia in 2019 and last year, which she unfortunately was unable to attend because of the lockdown restrictions
Both the crews she dances with, the J-Unit Pinnacle crew and Triiivelation, are training to represent South Africa at the 2021 Hip-Hop International Competition, which is due to take place in Phoenix, Arizona.
