Day Zero is looming in the Kouga Municipality and, due to extended drought, some areas – including Humansdorp, Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay – are expected to run out of water by the end of June this year.
“In spite of the extensive measures that have been put in place by the Kouga Municipality to mitigate the drought, a good rainfall might be the only way to save Kouga from running out of water,” said DA Tsitsi-Kouga Constituency Leader, Retief Odendaal.
“Access to water is a basic human right enshrined in the South African Constitution, and it is for this reason that members of the Kouga government, religious leaders and the community will be hosting a water prayer service at the Kouga Dam on Human Rights Day, March 21.”
The service will be led by Kouga Mayor, Councillor Horatio Hendricks, Odendaal and MPL, and former member of parliament, Donald Lee.
They will be joined by Ds Jos van der Merwe from the NG Church Gamtoosvallei congregation in Kwagga, near Patensie, and local evangelist, Tony Bergman.
All residents of Kouga are invited to join this prayer service on Monday, 21 March, at 10:30 at the Kouga Dam Wall.
