The Dogs of War bike club have joined up with Marina Nina’s restaurant and organised a bike rally to Jeffreys Bay, to raise funds for JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary, on Saturday, April 22.

The bikers will arrive at Fountains Mall at 10:00 and will be shaking their tins for any donations from the public.

After that the bikers will be ride to the main beach to shake their tins again.

They will then proceed to Marina Nina’s at about 11:00 for a morning next to the water, where a good burger and beer will be enjoyed.

“The bikers will pay R80 entry, which is purely a donation to JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary. This is so amazing as the rescue sanctuary, run by volunteers, does amazing work with the less fortunate animals.

“They do spay days, feeding animals in less fortunate homes, innoculations, tick and flea treatments and outreaches to assist animals in the outlying areas,” said event organiser Louisa Lightfoot.

“Beloved pets can get into an unfortunate situation so quickly. We have an elderly couple in Jeffreys Bay, the lady passed away from cancer suddenly and the husband has to move into a smaller accommodation that does not allow pets. Financial restraints on the retired gentleman have forced him to give all his pets up.

“There are two dogs, five-year-old Patches, a Jack Russel, and one-year-old Shirley, an Africanis, with two weeks left to find a home. This is a common occurrence in our town and a very sad one for the owner.”

Lightfoot explained that the owner of Nina’s has a massive passion for animals and goes the extra mile to ensure that animals are given what they need. All the fresh produce and leftovers from Nina’s is collected in containers, and JBay Animal Rescue collects it to feed to pigs and donkeys in the surrounding areas.

“At Nina’s in Jeffreys Bay we have a system where you can buy a R10 bag of food and donate it to the less fortunate animals. Its simple, when you go to Nina’s, pay an extra R10 or more on your bill and donate the extra R10 to the dog food tin, and take the dog food off the shelves and put it in the basket.

“The next day volunteers will collect the dog food for distribution.”

This Saturday, come along to Fountains Mall at 10:00, Dolphin Beach at 10:30, or Nina’s in the Marina at 11:00.

Lightfoot said that they are inviting various motorcycle clubs to join their worthy cause to raise funds for JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary, and they are also inviting families to join in the fun.

“Kids can enjoy the paddle boats and swim at the Marina Martinique Beach. Younger kids can also enjoy the play area at Nina’s,” said Lightfoot.
