On August 28 the Jeffreys Bay Bowling Club will have activities in celebration of their 50th anniversary.
Those 50 years have seen the club go from humble beginnings to becoming the biggest bowls club in the Eastern Province, with 200 members.
Many bowlers of exceptional talent have been produced, and the club have had many of their members representing Eastern Province at inter-provincial tournaments over many years.
The club has a big clubhouse and three beautifully-maintained greens. These excellent greens have always been the envy of many other bowls clubs in the province.
The members understand their position in the local community, and are often involved in activities affecting the community.
In 2017 the club started their first Business League, with 12 local businesses learning the game and competing against each other once a week, over seven weeks. The event has grown to consist of 24 participating businesses, and there is always a waiting list of businesses wishing to take part. The 12th business league will commence in a few weeks.
The league has become a competitive and popular event, and there is always a waiting list of businesses which wish to join.
Some members of the club belong to a bowls group called Nomads who do a lot of good work, and fundraising for charities in the local area.
