Her aspirations to work internationally and pursue her culinary passion have always been a driving force in the life of Jozay Gouws, who hails from the small community of Clarkson, in Tsitsikamma.
The lack of a formal chef qualification was a stumbling block, which the Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust removed by affording Gouws an opportunity to enrol in the Professional Chef Programme.
She obtained her Professional Chef qualification in 2022, after graduating from Capsicum Culinary Studio.
This programme was critical in equipping Gouws with the credentials required in her field to work anywhere in the world.
Gouws did her practical training at The Boardwalk Hotel, in Gqeberha, where she worked as an intern.
Shortly after graduation, she went on to work at a prestigious five-star hotel, The Views, in Wilderness, Western Cape.
Now, Gouws has secured a position in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, working for a five-star Hilton Hotel as a Commis Chef on a three-year contract.
“Our support was encouraged by her commitment and hard work, which were evident, as she excelled in both theoretical and practical aspects of her studies, achieving outstanding results in all her modules,” says Sindiswa Speelman, Community Development manager.
